What the f@%&! Why did they allowed this to happen to these children? If they want to spread their repressive beliefs, then they should do it on their own and not involve innocent children.
its all about culture and how different societies are raised.. to you and me this may look like a horrible type of child torture.. but to them it may be seen as a right of passage.. not that i think it is right... but you can't condem people for their beliefs.
i know these things because iam Muslim i know that in Iraq we only let adults do it so i dont know how these children did it and even adult CHOOSE to do it

This is similar to the Catholic practice of flagellation, but I think that in Catholicism only adults participate.
