I attended a church service today and quite frankly I am traumatised.
The experience was so horrific and so sad that I need a day or two to collect my thoughts in order to write my review.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I hadn't forgotten.
Bear with me.

It can't be THAT bad.
Next time just take at least the same amount of time (when picking a church) as you would in buying a pair of shoes.
Make sure that you have the right fit and style.
Zee - of course it was bad. If you have reason you can't "give it up for the sheep" as believers can.
It's amazing that religion has not been laughed back to the Middle Ages where it belongs alongside alchemy and witchcraft and other superstitious nonsense. But when in the USA the President must by law swear an oath of allegiance to the all powerful bearded man in the sky who always needs more of our cash - no matter what - what can you do but say Baaaa baaaaa baaaa.Or else throw yourself around talking in tongues perhaps?
1st tim poster...hell, I've been traumatized, stigmatized and all of that other ish by attending to church...I'll commune w/the Lord anywhere except church. It's pure fuccery.
Hope you recover!
I'm so, so sorry! I'm really looking forward to reading about your experience once you're ready to share with your readers!
Geesh hon, sorry to hear it was so bad...it can be that way at some places....
i look forward to hearing about it...hope you get to feeling better soon.
Don't let all that fear they try to put in your marinate too long, that's part of how they work...we are better than that!
Well what the hell happened?
A friend of mine invited me to church two weeks ago and I told her that I would come only if I could ask the minister some questions. She asked what type of questions, to which I replied...Is the your bible the infallible and final word from your god? Does your minister speak Aramaic? Hebrew? Greek? Latin? Can she/he translate word for word between these languages? How do you know for sure that the translated text that she/he is sermonizing from is 100% accurate? When your god, took the temporary form of a man, who was also himself, and allegedly intermingled with a select group of folks 2000 years ago, I'm pretty sure no one spoke any english. So before I waste your time or your ministers time or my time I need to know if these elementary questions can be addressed. I've not heard back from her, yet.
@uglyblackjohn---You cannot tell an atheist that going to church isn't THAT bad or that the experience they had when attending church couldn't have been THAT bad. In my personal experience, I have attended a few different churches (you know, looking for that "right fit") when I was a religious human and I found the same exact thing time and time again. The only thing that changes with churches, especially if you live in a smallish town, is the faces of the people sitting in the pews.
Anyway, I cannot wait to read about your experiences and I have been checking back every other day or so to see if you have written about it and will continue to do so until you do. I remember the many feelings I had as a non-believer sitting in a pew when I was first realizing my obvious atheism and I know that those feelings are horrible!
I’m baffled. Why would an atheist choose to attend a religious gathering or have close associations with people (“dear friends”?) who don’t accept her for who and what she is? I have enjoyed your blog but if you are now uncertain about your beliefs or want to be “talked into” religion, please be honest with yourself and your readers.
@ Holly - Why not?
I've been to many social events in which I had little interest.
Think of it as a guy having to sit through a "Chick Flick" or a girl watching a UFC fight with her boyfriend.
It's not THAT big of a deal.
